From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Both sides have taken maximum points from their first three games with Guardiola’s City sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table thanks to a superior goal difference.
West Ham’s Winston Reid was not the only one to receive a big blow from the elbow of Sergio Aguero as the incident has resulting in a three-match ban for the Argentine, meaning he will miss the trip to Old Trafford.
That will concern City and Guardiola as Aguero has looked unstoppable so far this season, scoring three goals in the opening three Premier League games – a record only Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic can match.
New goalkeeper Claudio Bravo should be on hand to make his City debut in place of Willy Caballero after missing Chile’s World Cup qualifiers with Paraguay and Bolivia for personal reasons.
There is also a boost going forward with new signings Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane expected to be in the squad after recovering from knee and hamstring injuries respectively.
Sane could replace Aguero in attack but Gundogan will be short of match fitness having not played since April of last season.
Bacary Sagna is also expected to be fit after missing City’s last three matches with a hamstring injury but the game comes too soon for captain Vincent Kompany to make his first appearance under Guardiola.
The Belgian suffered a series of calf injuries last season and has not featured for City since limping out of their Champions League semi-final defeat to Real Madrid in May. He is not expected back for at least another week.
