Man United vs West Ham result: Player ratings as Hammers hold Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side

Michail Antonio’s first-half penalty was cancelled out by a Mason Greenwood strike

Manchester United

David de Gea – 7: All eyes were on the Spaniard after his poor performance against Chelsea. Kept out Antonio after a looping cross but couldn’t keep out the winger’s penalty. Denied Bowen with a good reflex save in the second half.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah – 5: Found himself in space out on the right wing on a number of occasions, but struggled to make much of it. Booked for a desperate challenge on Antonio. Replaced at half-time.

Victor Lindelof – 7: Was forced to cover for Fosu-Mensah on a number of occasions with Antonio marauding up the wing – handled the task well for the most part.

Harry Maguire – 6: Little to criticise in the captain’s case. Wasn’t tested too much. Was composed on the ball.

Brandon Williams – 6: Was up against a spirited Bowen and wasn’t always convincing in that battle.

Nemanja Matic – 6: Composed on the ball but guilty of being a bit too slow to move it at times.

Paul Pogba – 5: Looked too relaxed in United’s midfield, pulling out of a 50/50 challenge with Cresswell in one of a few frustrating moments. His most frustrating moment, of course, was giving away the penalty with a blatant handball before trying to con the referee by feigning a knock to the head.

Bruno Fernandes – 7: Not at his best and cut a frustrated figure at times. Still, one of his team’s better performers.

Mason Greenwood – 8: Against a compact Hammers backline, his ability to get a shot off quickly was essential – as proven by his ruthless equaliser.

Anthony Martial – 7: Looked his side’s best chance of scoring in the first half. Combined well with Greenwood to assist youngster.

Marcus Rashford – 6: Lively like his forward partners, but less effective. Booked for a late challenge on Bowen.

West Ham

Lukasz Fabianski – 7: Was called into action twice in the opening minutes, denying Martial and Greenwood well. Could do nothing about Greenwood’s equaliser.

Ben Johnson – 6: Twenty-year-old was making just his second start of the season following last week’s win over Watford. Looked confident and competent in the first half, but errors crept in as the game wore on.

Issa Diop – 6: Couldn’t close down Greenwood quickly enough to prevent the 18-year-old from scoring – few defenders can, it seems.

Angelo Ogbonna – 7: Threw his body about for the West Ham cause. Blocked well when Greenwood powered one at goal from close range.

Aaron Cresswell – 6: Gave away the ball dangerously with an attempted long ball up the left flank in the first half – was let off by Matic’s heavy touch. Elsewhere, solid.

Declan Rice – 7: Put in a mature performance, picking the right times to pass and the right times to run on the ball. Fierce shot led to West Ham’s penalty.

Tomas Soucek – 7: Did a bit of everything and did it all well; tidy passing, sharp interceptions and controlled dribbling.

Mark Noble – 6: Was deployed as a No10 again, but was displaced somewhat by United’s midfield presence, which reduced Mr West Ham’s opportunities to be creative.

Jarrod Bowen – 7: Has had the bit between his teeth ever since arriving at West Ham in January. His energy and effort alone all but guarantee a decent rating.

Michail Antonio – 8: Covered a lot of ground as ever and dragged the United defence into a few physical battles. Rolled home his penalty confidently.

Pablo Fornals – 7: Showed some defensive acuity in the early moments by sliding across to intercept a sharp Fernandes through ball. Provided a good level of energy and slick passing.
