Pep Guardiola has claimed Sergio Aguero is “irreplaceable” for Manchester City and insists he is a unique star due to his personality.

The Argentine, 31, has become the club’s record scorer with 244 goals in all competitions since joining in 2011.

But with his contract set to expire in 2021, Guardiola is prepared for an impossible task should he leave.

“Sergio is irreplaceable,” Guardiola said. “It’ll be one of the toughest asks to replace him.

“We have another incredible striker in Gabriel Jesus and maybe another one will come when Sergio leaves but he’s irreplaceable.

“I haven’t spoken with him and don’t know his intentions. Sometimes you’ve to take a decision but with most of the cases the players decide.

“He’s done incredibly well. I’ve never seen a big star like him be so humble, so funny.

“It’s a joy to work with him and how he accepts my decisions when it sometimes doesn’t work for him.

“I’ve worked with other stars who believed they were bigger than Sergio when they weren’t and they were more difficult to handle and to be with.

“It’s not easy to find a guy with his status, his personality and what he’s done in his career with his humility. He is a joy to work with.”

Aguero, who has 13 goals this season, will lead City’s attack against Wolves tonight, hoping to eat into the 14 point deficit to leaders Liverpool, who won 4-0 at Leicester on Boxing Day.
