Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara will miss Sunday’s Premier League fixture with Manchester City.

The Spanish international, who had already been left out of the national squad for the upcoming international break, suffered a knee injury in the Merseyside derby last month.

He has already missed the wins over Sheffield United and West Ham as well as all three of the Reds’ Champions League fixtures so far.

“There was no surgery needed, but it was still an injury,” Jurgen Klopp said in his pre-match press conference.

"The longer he is out, the longer he has to train before we consider him as a starting line-up player. Thiago will not be available for Sunday."
