After recalling the striker from a loan spell, the Manchester United manager got his name wrong

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Your support makes all the difference.Louis van Gaal made yet another blunder with one of his player's names on Friday when he referred to Will Keane by the name of his twin brother Michael.
Will Keane has been training with Van Gaal all week after the Manchester United manager terminated his loan deal with Preston.
The striker is looking to earn a place in the United first-team squad for the remainder of the campaign, but the manager is yet to get to grips with the 22-year-old's name, it seems.
When asked why he had recalled Adnan Januzaj from his loan at Borussia Dortmund, the United boss explained: "It is more or less the same as we have done with Michael Keane, for example, they are coming to us to ask for a second chance and Manchester United is a club who takes care of all their players and I think it's a very good habit to do that."
Will's twin brother Michael is, of course, no longer on the books at Manchester United because Van Gaal sold him to Burnley a year ago.
It may come as no surprise to United fans that Van Gaal got the two Keanes mixed up. He has form when it comes to getting his players' names wrong.
On United's pre-season tour of the United States, the 64-year-old called Chris Smalling "Mike" while sat alongside the centre-back at a press conference in San Jose.
And in November, the United boss referred to the England defender as "Michael" in a press conference after the 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow.
