How will the Premier League look when it restarts

Liverpool are on the verge of becoming Premier League champions—but there’s still the last part of the job to do for Jurgen Klopp and Co. before they can celebrate.

The Reds resumed playing knowing they needed six points to seal the title they have waited 30 years for.

A draw against Merseyside rivals Everton didn’t quite take them the big step toward the finishing line they wanted, but it is now a single defeat from 31 league games for the Anfield club after they followed that up with a thumping 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Next up for Liverpool is their trip to Man City on 2 July.

But before that, Manchester City face Chelsea, a result which could also affect when the title is won. So when can the Reds be crowned champions?

Without being on the pitch: 25 June

After City beat Burnley and Liverpool beat Palace, there’s one more date when the Reds could win—without taking to the field.

Guardiola’s team play Chelsea on Thursday 25 June; if they fail to win that fixture, they can no longer catch Liverpool.

The Reds would win while watching from home.

Should Guardiola’s team see off Frank Lampard’s crew it’s over to the Etihad.

The 86-point tally they have would leave them 20 ahead of City as the two teams prepare to meet in early July.

When the Reds travel to Man City it will be win-at-all-costs for the home team if they don’t want to give up their own trophy, on their own patch, to their rivals.

A draw will be enough for the Reds to win the title that day.

Should Liverpool lose at the Etihad then yet another fixture will have to secure the title.

Game four: Back at Anfield

Liverpool’s fourth game back is at home once more, with Aston Villa the visitors to Anfield.

The away team will be battling against relegation, so again points are far from a given, but a Liverpool win here will put a seal on the title if it hasn’t been secured already.

Two more points in total and the Premier League belongs to Liverpool, regardless of which games they come in—but it could yet come before they hit that tally if City fail to beat both Chelsea and then the Reds.
