The Reds are top of the league by two points, but have played a game more than Manchester City.
If they can stay ahead of the champions and negotiate one of their last remaining tough matches, Jurgen Klopp's side will have overcome a serious obstacle in their way.
The impact of the international break cannot be understated either, with both sides experiencing limited preparation time.
With Man City expected to beat Fulham on Saturday, Liverpool may require victory over Spurs to head back to the top of the table.
Prediction… Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham
A big game for both teams, but Tottenham’s poor domestic form in recent months means Liverpool have the edge here. As they’re likely to head into the match in second place, with Manchester City playing Fulham on Saturday, the onus is on Jurgen Klopp’s side to respond with three points. Tottenham will have to stop the in-form Sadio Mane, who has scored five goals in his last three games, and Liverpool have an excellent home record against Spurs, winning five of the last seven games in all competitions at Anfield.
