Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has congratulated the club on their Premier League title success, with the Spaniard making a point of acknowledging the supporters who have waited 30 years for the feat to be repeated.

Manchester City’s 2-1 defeat by Chelsea on Thursday confirmed Liverpool as 2019/20 champions, with Jurgen Klopp’s side holding an unassailable 23-point lead with only 21 points left to play for.

The triumph sparked wild celebrations across Liverpool, with the squad watching the Stamford Bridge clash together at the team hotel and posting their celebrations on social media, before thousands of fans turned at Anfield with flares and flags filling the air.

Having spent four goal-laden years at Anfield, Liverpool still hold a special place in Torres’ heart, and he was quick to congratulate his former club following Thursday night’s success.

“Huge congrats to everyone at Liverpool on winning the Premier League,” Torres wrote on Twitter.

“Unbelievable squad, magnificent manager, great staff but above all my sincere congrats to every single LFC supporter. You've been waiting so long and finally that desired trophy is yours. Very well deserved.”

Torres was far from the only former Liverpool favourite to send their congratulations, with both Pepe Reina and Rafa Benitez posting similar messages.

"CHAMPIONS. Congratulations @LFC!! Award more than deserved after an excellent season,” said goalkeeper Reina, who is currently on load from AC MIlan at Aston Villa.

“30 years later. Today I feel more than proud of having belonged to this great club.”

Former manager Benitez added: "Congratulations to Liverpool Football Club, after 30 years, the dream comes true! Very happy for all the Reds! You'll never walk alone.

Former Liverpool players Alvaro Arbeloa and Luis Garcia also posted on Twitter to acknowledge their success.
