Mario Balotelli has claimed that neither Brendan Rodgers nor Jürgen Klopp, his two managers during his nightmare two-year spell at Liverpool, made “a good impression” on him.

The 26-year-old striker, who marked his debut for Nice with two goals in a 3-2 Ligue 1 win over Marseille on Sunday, also described his decision to move to Anfield as the greatest miscalculation of his career.

When asked what had gone wrong for over the last two years by Canal+, Balotelli said: "I went to Liverpool, the worst decision of my life.

"Besides the fans, who were fantastic, and some players who I got on really well with, I just didn't like the club. I had two coaches, Rodgers and Klopp for a brief period but neither their methods nor their personalities impressed me. I never felt right there."

Balotelli scored just four goals in 28 appearances for Liverpool after joining for £16m from Milan in August 2014, under Rodgers’ regime.

The Italy international was loaned back to the Serie A club the following year, where his struggles in front of goal continued.

Klopp, Rodgers’ successor, opted not to give Balotelli a chance to save his career on Merseyide, and subsequently sanctioned a free transfer to Nice on transfer deadline day.

Balotelli has since clashed with Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool defender, after he suggested that the Ligue 1 club had overpaid by spending nothing on the striker.

Mino Raiola, Balotelli’s agent, also labelled Klopp a “piece of shit” for his treatment of the Italian, who trained apart from the first-team and played no part in pre-season this summer.

"We did not isolate him [Balotelli]," Klopp said, in response to Raiola’s accusations. "That's part of the business I am not interested in.

"It's a free world so he can say what he wants, no problem."
