Steven Gerrard donates £5,000 to aid foodbanks in Merseyside battling coronavirus pandemic
The contribution from the former Liverpool captain, now manager of Rangers, will benefit the Trussell Trust Foodbank network that has seen a surge in demand for meals

The contribution from the former Liverpool captain, now manager of Rangers, will benefit the Trussell Trust Foodbank network that has seen a surge in demand for meals due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“On behalf of my foundation, I am proud to make this donation to the LFC Emergency Foodbank Appeal to support those who need it most,” said the 39-year-old.
“Foodbanks provide a lifeline for so many people and continuing to support them during these unprecedented times is especially important.
“Any donation that people can give, no matter how big or small, will make a big difference and will help to ensure that the foodbanks can carry on providing essential services to those who need it most.”
The LFC Emergency Foodbank Appeal has raised over £13,000, with supporters making pledges through the official Facebook fundraising page.
The Independent have also launched an appeal – Help The Hungry – to help those going hungry because of the coronavirus crisis, teaming up with The Felix Project to deliver produce to community hubs in London boroughs.
