Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Joleon Lescott has disclosed that Roberto Mancini ordered calm in the Manchester City dressing room in the immediate aftermath of their historic 6-1 victory at Old Trafford in October.
"I think the dressing room would have been louder than it was if the manager didn't come in so soon after," Lescott said. "All the boys were hyped; he came in and said it's just three points, just like the week before and, hopefully, next week.
"That settled us and we got on with it. I think if it was at home it would have been different but when you're away you have to respect the opposition. We just humbled ourselves, got changed and went home.
"After that game we could have been really noisy but we showed respect. We take it [the noisy neighbour term] with a pinch of salt now. We took it a bit more disrespectful at the start but I think even now they've started to regret saying it because we're consistent and a good team. It's an unfair label."
Lescott was speaking at a joint initiative between Manchester City and Manchester United to raise funds for a young family devastated by a house fire. Cailin and Zach lost their mother, brother and all their possessions when their home in Broadheath was destroyed last year. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/gmp
