From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Leicester winning the Premier League title is big news. Even if you've never watched a football match you will know that.

But just how widely their success was recognised around the globe has been revealed with an incredible graphic produced by Twitter.

Data from the social media giant shows that there were 5.5 million tweets sent last night as Tottenham failed to beat Chelsea, a result which meant Leicester were crowned champions.

It shows that while the UK was the focus of the interest, football loving nations around the world were talking about the almost unbelievable success story.

Twitter saw an 86 per cent increase in normal activity on Monday night, highlighting just how engrossing the story has been. There were also as many tweets mention the word 'Party' as there were on New Year 2016.

Twitter can expect to be awash with more Leicester activity this weekend when the team are presented with the trophy after their game against Everton on Saturday.
