From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

After surviving a spirited first-half effort from the French side, Fulham – leading 1-0 from the first leg – secured a meeting with the Italian club Bologna to contest a place in the Uefa Cup.
Legwinski broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, beating Jean-Baptiste Daguet with a great header from a Sean Davis free-kick.
Hayles had a header cleared off the line in the 69th minute but he made sure of the win with a rasping left-footed drive three minutes later.
Sochaux were made to regret a controlled but blunt performance in the first half. The French side almost took the lead in the 14th minute but Sylvain Monsoreau saw his volley cleared off the line by Alain Goma.
The second half was a different story, with Fulham quickly establishing the upper hand. A volley from Steve Marlet skimmed past the post before Legwinski put the visitors ahead, sending a looping header over Daguet.
Sochaux wasted a good chance to get back into the tie just a minute later but Hayles killed the game off, setting off on a surging run that took him past two defenders before thumping the the ball home.
