From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for…

Troy Deeney: There is no doubt that Deeney is a huge part of this Watford side and he will have been relieved to break his Premier League duck a fortnight ago. However, just one goal in 11 starts is not the return that was expected from a man that struck at least 20 goals in his last three seasons in the Championship.

Best stat…

65%: Leicester City have won 13 of their 20 games in the Premier League as they have continued their excellent form that ensured they avoided relegation last season. In that period they have only lost twice – against Chelsea and Arsenal – and have risen to third in the top flight.

Remember when…

Troy Deeney scored in the 97th minute to cap off the most extraordinary of finishes to a play-off game ever. Anthony Knockaert had the chance to take Leicester to Wembley and one win away from Wembley, but spurned the chance by having his penalty saved by Manuel Almunia. Watford then went down the other end and Deeney blasted home within 20 seconds of Knockaert’s miss to end the most dramatic of games.

Player to watch…

Jamie Vardy: The England international has been in outstanding form and leads the Premier League’s scoring charts by four goals from teammate Riyad Mahrez and today’s opposite number Odion Ighalo. He became only the second ever player to scored in eight consecutive matches after Ruud van Nistelrooy and is expected to start for England against Spain in Alicante on Friday. He will again be the danger man for a Watford defence that have only conceded 10 goals in 11 games this term.
