From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Brian Laws' future as Burnley manager was in grave doubt last night as he attended a board meeting at Turf Moor due to decide his fate. Burnley had high hopes of avoiding the drop when Laws was appointed after Owen Coyle's departure in January and despite the 48-year-old's confident talk about rebuilding in the Championship next season, his chairman Barry Kilby is believed to be harbouring serious doubts about whether he is the man to take the club on.
Rumours of a clause in Laws' contract that he would face dismissal if the Clarets failed to hit a 29-point target have never been confirmed or denied. Burnley's last-day defeat of Tottenham took them to 30 points and saw them end the season in 18th place with a resulting £800,000 bonus but that was not enough to convince many fans. Some applauded Spurs' fans' chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning" on Sunday.
