The Reds boss missed the 2-2 draw with Sunderland on Saturday after complaining of feeling unwell in the morning and later being driven to Aintree Hospital where the decision was made the operate immediately.
In Klopp’s absence, the team was picked and managed by his assistants Zelkjo Buvac, Peter Krawietz, John Achterberg and Pepijn Lijnders. While the 48-year-old is expected to be discharged on Sunday, it remains to be seen when he will be fit enough to return to the dugout.
The Merseyside club are set to face West Ham United in the FA Cup fourth round reply on Tuesday night before travelling to Villa Park to meet Aston Villa at the weekend.
NHS guidelines state: “The recovery time tends to be short and most people can leave hospital a few days after the operation. If the appendix is operated upon promptly then most patients can go home within 24hrs.
“For the first few days after the operation you are likely to experience some pain and bruising. This will improve over time but you can take painkillers if necessary.”
