After Tim Sherwood's was sacked as Aston Villa manager today, only Newcastle's Steve McClaren (11/8) has shorter odds than Jose Mourinho (2/1) as the next Premier League manager to leave their post.

The champions Chelsea have endured a woeful season, losing six games this season in all competitions already.

Reports surfaced last night that Mourinho is on the brink of being dismissed by Chelsea after yet another loss - this time 2-1 by West Ham. It was a game full of controversies, with Mourinho sent to the stands, Nemanja Matic sent off and a Kurt Zouma goal disallowed. Mourinho did not speak to the press after the game.

Villa sacked manager Tim Sherwood on Sunday after eight months in charge of the Premier League club.

Villa lost 2-1 at home to Swansea on Saturday, a sixth straight defeat in the league, having not won since the opening day of the season in August against Bournemouth.

The club is in the Premier League relegation zone with only four points from 10 matches.

"The board has monitored the performances closely all season and believes the results on the pitch were simply not good enough and that a change is imperative," Villa said in a statement.

"The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tim for all his efforts during a difficult period last season and for the many positive contributions he has made to the entire football setup."
