The odds on Jose Mourinho being the next Premier League manager to be sacked have drastically shortened this weekend.

The Chelsea manager is under renewed pressure after his side lost 3-1 to Southampton, their fourth Premier League defeat in eight games this season.

Dick Advocaat had been the favourite for the chop and duly proved the bookmakers correct by quitting as Sunderland manager on Sunday. It means Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is now the favourite to be sacked, with Mourinho behind him.

Last month, shortly after Mourinho agreed a new contract at Stamford Bridge, it was possible to place a bet at 33/1 that the Portuguese manager would be the next to be axed. However, those odds are now as low at 3/1 with some bookmakers.

Mourinho has said he will not follow in the footsteps of walking away by his own volition, but must be sacked by the club.

"I don't run away," he said after the loss to Southampton.

"If the club wants to sack me, they have to sack me because I'm not running away from my responsibility and my team."

Chelsea will resume their Premier League campaign after the international break with a home game against Aston Villa.
