Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has claimed he would be open to his next managerial role being in France.

Mourinho was seen watching a game between Lille and Montpellier on the weekend, where his old friend Luis Camps works as a football advisor for Lille’s scouting department.

The pair formerly worked together at Real Madrid, where Campos was chief scout, with reports Mourinho was keen to watch Nicolas Pepe, Lille’s 23-year-old striker who has scored 16 goals and added a further eights assists in 25 league games this season.

“I see myself coaching in France one day,” Mourinho told Portuguese newspaper Record. “I’m a man that has worked in four different countries and that likes other cultures.

“I like to learn a lot and to work in a different league would be a fantastic experience.”

Mourinho, who has won 25 titles in total across England, Italy, Spain and Portugal, has seen his reputation somewhat tarnished since leaving England, after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rejuvenated the disgruntled United side he left behind.

However, the 54-year-old has not shown any imminent desires to return to coaching, having signed a television deal with Russian state broadcaster RT, as welll as frequently appearing in a punditary capacity on beIN Sports.

“Right now, I’m calm,” Mourinho continued. “I’m trying to take advantage of being with my family and my friends.

“Soon enough, another opportunity in football will come my way.”
