Chelsea captain John Terry said the Chelsea fans were "rightly" angry with the current situation at the club, but added that it was time to move forward.

Boos rang out around Stamford Bridge as the names of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa were called out ahead of kick-off.

Those two, along with Eden Hazard, as seen by Chelsea supporters as the three players most responsible for Jose Mourinho's sacking on Thursday.

The difference in effort in the 3-1 win over Sunderland was clear, with Costa and Fabregas, as well as Oscar, having their best match in weeks, with Chelsea taking just five minutes to open the scoring.

Jose Mourinho's name was constantly chanted during the 90 minutes, with Roman Abramovich watching from his box. Chants of "where were you when you were s***?" also met Chelsea players after each goal.

Fabregas and Costa were also booed and jeered when they were subsituted by coach Steve Holland.

But Terry lauded the performance of the players and also said that Chelsea supporters must move forward.

"[It was an] excellent performance form the boys, it was a big occasion and we needed the win, which we got," Terry said after the game.

"There was pressure on us before the game, but we brought that on ourselves. We needed everyone to perform and they did that today.

"We were delighted with the first half performance, it dropped off in the second half, but we got the points."

When asked whether Chelsea fans had a right to be angry, Terry added: "Absolutely and rightly so as well.

"Chelsesa is such a big club, we're not used to being [in this position], we've had lot of good times over the last 10 years.

"But I'm sure [the fans will] support us and well come through it. They are disappointed and so are we."

When asked specifically about Costa and Fabregas being booed, Terry said: "I think it's on all of us that we're in this positionm not just one or two individuals.

"One or two have performed [this season], the rest of us haven't. [Mourinho's sacking is] behind us now we have to move on move forward."

Terry was also asked about incoming interim manager Guus Hiddink, who he played under in 2009.

"He was very important for us, very demanding in training, training was intense, he's a great man manager as well. I'm looking forward to him coming in."

On Mourinho he said: "Our thoughts are with the [former] manager as it falls on him."
