The France international has been ruled out for six months after landing awkwardly and damaging his anterior cruciate ligament against Manchester United on Sunday and will not appear in a blue shirt again until next season.
With interim manager Guus Hiddink’s defensive cover thin on the ground, Zouma’s injury raised the possibility of Chelsea opening with Terry’s representatives.
However, according to a report by the Telegraph, the club remain adamant that their next permanent manager will be given the final say on whether or not the 35-year-old’s stay at Stamford Bridge is extended, and the fitness of Zouma will have no impact on that decision.
Terry publicly announced that he had not been offered a new contract and that he expects to leave Chelsea following his side’s 5-1 FA Cup fourth round win over MK Dons.
A week later, after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with United, the former England international once again spoke openly about his future and claimed nothing had changed.
Chelsea’s supporters appear to have largely taken Terry’s side in the dispute, though the Telegraph’s report suggests that the club’s hierarchy are unimpressed that he has made knowledge of the impasse public.
It is also claimed that 19-year-old Andreas Christensen, who is currently on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, is being considered for a first-team role.
The Denmark international has impressed in his first year of a two-season-long loan and could be brought back to Stamford Bridge early, in order to vie for a starting place at centre-half.
