Jamie Vardy replies to Harry Kane with Lion King tweet after Leicester secure Premier League title

Kane posted a picture of a pride of lions two weeks ago in a claim that Spurs would hunt down Leicester

Jamie Vardy is having a party. That’s the chant Leicester fans have sang all season in celebration of their England striker whose 22 goals this season have propelled them to a first Premier League trophy in their history in what is the most incredible story in British football history.

But it’s actually what happened on Monday night as the Leicester squad gathered at the striker’s house to watch Tottenham’s must-win clash at Chelsea, where a 2-2 draw saw Spurs eliminated from the title race and Leicester crowned Premier League champions.

The 29-year-old has developed a reputation for being a fiery character on the pitch – not to mention a controversial one off it – and he couldn’t help but poke fun at Spurs immediately after they lost their heads in the fiery Stamford Bridge encounter – in which they picked up a Premier League record of nine yellow cards.

Having seen Spurs striker and England teammate Harry Kane post a picture of a pride of lions on his Instagram account a fortnight ago in a bold statement that the Londoners were hunting down Leicester, Vardy issued a comical response drawing inspiration from The Lion King.

Vardy posted a picture on his Twitter account of Mufasa, Simba’s father and king of the pride, falling to his death among a stampede of wildebeest.

And just in case Kane was unsure if the post was aimed at him, Vardy copied the caption Kane used with his initial picture of “…”.

There’s unlikely to be any animosity between the two strikers when they link up in the England squad for Euro 2016 though, and Kane spoke out after Monday night’s match to praise Leicester for the success this season.

Kane wrote on Twitter: "I'm so proud of this team and club. We put it all on the line but unfortunately it just wasn't enough. We learn and come back stronger!

"Congratulations to Leicester on what they achieved. Finally thanks to all the fans! Let's finish the season strong now!"
