New Premier League season to return from September 12

Jadon Sancho is confident of being a Manchester United player “by the end of the week”, as negotiations about the Borussia Dortmund forward have accelerated in the last 24 hours.

The Independent reported on Thursday that the Bundesliga club had told United a figure they would accept, and while there still isn’t an agreement, the feeling on all sides is that a deal will be struck in the next few days.

There is some time pressure, as Dortmund have set a deadline and made it clear they will not sell after they return to their pre-season training camp on 10 August.

United are highly conscious of this and willing to get it done.

The remaining sticking point is the structure of the payments after an initial £60m, and how much is fixed for an eventual £120m deal.

As regards personal terms, all is agreed with Sancho and his representatives, and the player is excited about the potential move. Sources close to the situation say it is now picking up pace.
