From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Harry Kane’s recent return to goalscoring form will have pleased Tottenham Hotspur supporters and the striker’s family in equal measure.

No member of either group, perhaps not even Harry himself, will be happier than Joe Kane, the England international’s cousin.

Harry’s stoppage time goal in his club’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa not only sealed three points for Mauricio Pochettino’s side but also guaranteed Joe a sum of £5,000.

The Tottenham striker’s cousin had picked six players to score over the course of last weekend’s Premier League action and, by the time of the Monday night kick-off, only he and one other participant stood to win the £10,000 prize.

Both were waiting on Harry to score and, when he duly did in the nick of time, they shared the jackpot equally.

Joe met up with Harry after Tottenham’s victory to celebrate the unlikely cash win.

He also thanked his other selections, Jamie Vardy, Odion Ighalo, Yaya Toure, Romelu Lukaku and Graziano Pelle, for notching over the course of the weekend.

Harry Kane had only scored one Premier League goal this season before netting a hat-trick in a 3-1 victory at Bournemouth on October 25.

His goal on Monday took his total for the season up to five, with two further goals scored while on duty with England.
