Liverpool fan knocks himself unconscious with celebratory backflip after Champions League win

Seven weeks have passed since a hot night in Madrid when Liverpool beat Tottenham to the Champions League, but Harry Kane is still thinking about it. “We know it was there for the taking and that’s something we have to deal with, and something we’ve had to think about over the summer,” he says.

Kane is speaking at a press conference at the Singapore National Stadium ahead of Spurs’ International Champions Cup game against Juventus on Sunday.

“It was a tough one to take. We did extremely well to reach the Champions League final and, of course, when you get to those big games and you don’t quite perform the way you know you can, that’s always the bit that hurts you the most.”

Asked if he had watched the final back, Kane says: “No, I haven’t. I don’t want to watch it. As a player, you know when you could have done better, you could have done more. Like I said, it’s a hard one, because it’s probably one of the biggest games we’ll ever play in our careers and to let it slide by is always a tough one to take.”

The Premier League season is still four weeks away but there have been encouraging signs for Tottenham already this summer, not least in the acquisition of the highly prized Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, as they begin their first full season in the new stadium. For Kane, it is time to lick their wounds, and learn from them.

“It’s a hard one to get over but, all in all, with everything surrounding us, the start at Wembley, and things like that, I think we did extremely well, and it’s now given us the confidence and belief that we can be in the big games, the Champions League finals, so it’s down to us this season to try and perform again.”
