From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The Barcelona midfielder, Ludovic Giuly, yesterday revealed that he is aware of interest from Rafael Benitez about a possible move to Liverpool this summer and would be prepared to quit the Nou Camp if his contract demands were not fulfilled.

Giuly, the French international whose goal in Milan last week has taken the Catalans to the brink of the Champions' League final, is seeking a two-year extension to his current contract with the Spanish champions-elect and has threatened to leave unless negotiations are brought to a successful conclusion before the World Cup.

The 29-year-old will enter the final 12 months of his existing contract in June, a situation that has alerted the Liverpool manager as he endeavours to improve his squad's right midfield for next season.

Giuly remarked: "I haven't heard from Rafael Benitez yet, but maybe he'll call me soon as people keep telling me."
