Your support makes all the difference.Gary Lineker has admitted that he does not regret the tweet that saw him promise to present Match of the Day in his pants if Leicester won the Premier League, with the daring post set to see the former Foxes striker start the new season in nothing but his underwear.
The 55-year-old former England international looks poised to deliver on his promise after holding discussions with BBC producers about appearing on national television in his underpants, although he initially tried to find out if there was any way he could get out of it.
The Match of the Day presenter admitted that the whole scenario has been “really, really bonker” given the level of interest in his clothing attire next season – or lack of.
However, with over 4.8m Twitter followers, any message was hardly going to go unnoticed, and Lineker admitted that the all the attention surrounding it has been fun to follow.
Speaking to the BBC’s Dan Walker, Lineker said: “The whole thing’s got bonkers, it’s got really, really bonkers. It’s getting mentioned everywhere and everything. ‘Are you going to do it’ and this and that and the other.
“Do I regret the tweet? Nah, not really. No, no I don’t because it’s been quite fun. I did the tweet knowing, categorically, there was zero chance of Leicester continuing on the line they were going and to win the league. I was spectacularly wrong but I’m so glad I was.”
Lineker is expected to appear in just his pants at some stage during the first Match of the Day when the 2016/17 Premier League gets underway in August, with bookmakers’ offering odds on what colour his underwear will be – unsurprisingly Leicester City blue remains the hot favourite.
