From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Liverpool cult hero John Arne Riise has further endeared himself to the Reds' faithful by showing off his new tattoo, the words You'll Never Walk Alone on his thunderous left leg.

Gerry & The Pacemaker's 1963 version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" is blasted out before every match at Anfield, and is still loved by Riise, who left the club in 2008 to join Roma after seven years.

In 2005 the Norwegian started in the memorable Champions League final victory over AC Milan, after Liverpool fought back from 3-0 down to level the game and then win on penalties. Riise did miss his spot-kick in Istanbul, however.

Writing on Instagram alongside a picture of his new inking:

"Proud to show my new tattoo. A tribute to the amazing club and fans of Liverpool I put it on my left leg as well. I'm very happy and hope you all like it and understand how much those seven years and your support meant to me."

The 34-year-old is currently without a club after leaving APOEL at the end of last season.
