It is yet another double gameweek in Fantasy Premier League - our third in a row - though a much smaller one this time around, with only Manchester City and Southampton having two fixtures.

Combine Pep Guardiola’s heavy rotation policy with Southampton’s poor form and there are not too many outstanding options who can be sure to play twice, meaning there is an open field of captaincy candidates.

Next week should see a return to normality unless Aston Villa’s meeting with Everton is squeezed into gameweek 28. The following week is a blank with only four games, so consider whether you’ll want to use your Free Hit chip.

Watchlist

Harry Kane

Kane underwhelmed in Tottenham’s double gameweek, scoring just once and missing several decent chances while Son Heung-Min and Gareth Bale hauled, but we’ll keep the faith for a home fixture against Crystal Palace.

Michail Antonio

Fixture difficulty appears to mean nothing to Antonio, who scored in back-to-back games against City and Tottenham after being sold by many managers. Whoever he’s playing, he keeps scoring, which is a good sign for Leeds’ visit to the London Stadium on Sunday.

Jesse Lingard

Staying with West Ham, Lingard’s renaissance is turning him into a genuine fantasy option. Two goals and three assists in five appearances is a strong start, all at the modest price of just £6.0m. Word of warning, though: he cannot play against parent club Manchester United next week.

Ruben Dias

Of all City’s outfielders, Dias appears the most likely to start both games. The only league outing he has missed this season - last month’s win over Tottenham - was due to illness though managers should mind Aymeric Laporte’s return to contention.

Mbaye Diagne

Since joining on loan from Galatasaray in January, Diagne has posted promising underlying numbers for a striker trapped in relegation dogfight at West Bromwich Albion. A visit from Newcastle followed by a trip to Crystal Palace are a decent pair of fixtures.

Captaincy

It’s simultaneously hard to look past City’s double but hard to pick a City asset who will definitely play both. The Southampton game is the one to target but is the second of the two, which complicates matters further.

Ilkay Gundogan was rotated against Wolves so is relatively well rested but may be more likely to start against United than Southampton. Kevin De Bruyne could be a powerful differential pick. If you’re going for a defender, Ruben Dias is the most nailed.

When every double gameweek asset feels like a single gameweek asset, you may be tempted to go for a regular old one-gam player. Harry Kane or Michail Antonio seem like the best picks in that regard.

Clean sheets

Manchester City, as usual. Ederson may be their only player certain to play both but there is a good chance Dias and John Stones will return points.

Outside of the league leaders, Tottenham and Aston Villa have favourable defensive fixtures at home to Palace and away to Wolves respectively.

Liverpool have a decent chance against Fulham, if you can look past the injury crisis.

Best XI

Martinez; Dias, Alexander-Arnold, Targett; De Bruyne, Bale, Gundogan, Lingard, Soucek; Kane, Antonio.
