How many of our picks are in your team?
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Gabriel Jesus
It was a long, long time ago now, but you may recall Manchester City beating Watford by eight goals last September. Jesus did not get on the pitch that day, though Sergio Aguero’s unavailability through injury means he is likely to start the reverse fixture.
The Brazilian is in form too, with three goals in his last three league appearances after enduring a nine-game drought. A trip to Vicarage Road to face a Watford side battling for their lives will not intimidate him.
Anthony Martial
It remains difficult to ignore Martial as a mid-price midfield option. The United forward has 10 attacking returns since the restart and finally looks comfortable playing as a lone central striker under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United’s run of favourable fixtures ends next Wednesday night with West Ham’s visit to Old Trafford. The Hammers may look more solid under David Moyes, but Martial’s owners will still be considering giving their man the captaincy.
Stuart Armstrong
One of the break-out stars of the restart, Armstrong has five attacking returns since the resumption and is operating in something of an advanced position, which led to his goal in Monday night’s 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.
At £5.2m, he is a solid fifth-choice midfield option who can provide points from off-the-bench or even step in if one of your first-choice players has an unfavourable fixture. Southampton travel to relegation-threatened Bournemouth.
Dwight McNeil
Even though Norwich only lost by one goal at Stamford Bridge last time out, Chelsea’s sheer dominance suggested that we can still rely on Daniel Farke’s relegated side to give up goal-scoring opportunities in their final few games.
Burnley visit Carrow Road as one of the top flight’s form sides, unbeaten in their last six, and have a favourable final day fixture to boot against Brighton. McNeil is yet to catch fire since the restart, with just one assist to his name, but is Burnley’s flair player and creative outlet.
Romain Saiss
Clean sheets are hard to find among this week’s match-ups but second-lowest scorers Crystal Palace are travelling to play Wolves. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have five clean sheets in their last eight.
Saiss remains the pick of the bunch among their defence, coming in cheaper than Willy Boly or Conor Coady and much cheaper than Matt Doherty, even if he is liable to pick up a yellow card every now and again.
Honourable mentions: Nick Pope, John Egan, Leandro Trossard, Bruno Fernandes, Danny Ings.
