Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sadio Mané

On yet another blank gameweek, there are few trustworthy premium assets to go around. Mohamed Salah can usually be relied upon, but his six-game run without a goal has seen a lot of managers ship him out.

Many have swapped him for team-mate Sadio Mané, who blanked last time out against Tottenham Hotspur but has otherwise been steadily drip-feeding points since the middle of January.

Every game between now and the end of the season is a major one for Liverpool and they will hope, on a return to his former club, Mané can help break down an improving Southampton defence.

Eden Hazard

You should know better by now than to trust Eden Hazard. Many invested in the Belgian last week. He was then dropped for the trip to Cardiff, yet returned a double-digit haul three days later against Brighton.

What to expect on Monday night, then? At least, Chelsea’s visitors West Ham have looked woeful for past few weeks, losing two of their last three and conceding three at home to Huddersfield Town in the other.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have little to fight for, with their safety essentially assured, while Chelsea still have a Champions League place to fight for as well as much to prove. Is a little consistency from Hazard too much to ask?

Youri Tielemans

On weekends with a truncated fixture list, it is all the more useful to pick out a weak link and expose their flaws. Sadly, you cannot get much weaker than Huddersfield, relegated last weekend.

Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester travel to west Yorkshire this weekend having won their last three on the spin, with young playmaker Youri Tielemans, who is on loan from Monaco, central to much of their good work.

The 21-year-old has returned four assists in his last five. In the other game, he scored. Those offensive numbers bode well against a defence that has conceded eight in their last three.

Ben Chilwell

And given all that, why not double or even triple up on Leicester assets? It would certainly make sense to invest in their defence considering Huddersfield’s dreadful year in front of goal.

Jan Siewert’s side could end the campaign with the fewest goals in Premier League history and Ben Chilwell will be part of a Leicester defence hoping to shut them out at the John Smith’s.

The left-back promises not only clean sheet potential but also significant attacking threat going into this weekend, having registered an assist last time out in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth.

Salomon Rondon

It’s slim pickings in the forward stakes this week. Olivier Giroud could profit against a poor West Ham defence if he can keep his place, though Chelsea may reinstate a misfiring Gonzalo Higuain.

Salomon Rondon and Newcastle United’s quietly impressive form is worth greater consideration. The Venezuelan has two in his last three with an assist to boot, while Rafa Benitez’s side have won their last five at home.

Their visitors to St James’ Park this weekend are Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace, who travel to the north east having conceded the third-most shots of any side when away from home this season.

Honourable mentions: Kasper Schmeichel, David Luiz, Ryan Fraser, Richarlison, Alexandre Lacazette.
