Fantasy football scout tips gameweek 24: Riyad Mahrez, Marko Arnautovic, Ben Davies and more
How many of our picks are in your team?
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Riyad Mahrez
Something of a template has formed across most top fantasy teams in recent weeks but Riyad Mahrez is one player with the potential to break it.
The Leicester City playmaker has an enticing run up ahead and though stifled at Stamford Bridge last week, he has served his owners well recently, with his 14-point haul against Huddersfield Town being a highlight.
Mahrez should have plenty of opportunities to haul again this weekend. No team has conceded more goals on the road this year than Watford, who make the trip to the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
The main beneficiary of Philippe Coutinho’s departure, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain now looks significantly more sure of a start in Liverpool’s midfield.
A second goal in as many games after his opener against Manchester City last week would be welcome, but the most enticing thing about Oxlade-Chamberlain is his price tag.
At a paltry £5.6m, if he starts to return anywhere near as well as Coutinho did, we have ourselves a true bargain.
Ben Davies
Remember Ben Davies? He was an essential pick back at the start of the season, scoring and assisting from left wing back, until those points eventually dried up and Danny Rose returned.
Now, due to Rose’s knee injury, he is back in the Tottenham Hotspur side, on some set pieces and a semi-reliable source of clean sheets.
Southampton have struggled for form of late, particularly against the top sides, and still have no outstanding goal threat. Davies looks a wise pick this week, but beware Rose’s return.
Marko Arnautovic
What is there not to like about Marko Arnautovic at the moment?
The Austrian is a midfielder playing up front, scoring and assisting regularly and West Ham United’s schedule is one of the better ones over the next few weeks.
Even better, most other managers do not seem to have cottoned on. Still only 11.2 per cent of managers own him.
Andre Gray
A player that often flies low under the radar is Watford’s Andre Gray, who is one of the few budget forward options available to us at the moment.
Troy Deeney’s return from suspensions last week had us concerned for Gray’s place but he kept it and scored against Southampton, his second in two outings.
This weekend’s opponents, Leicester City, are not terribly tight at the back at home and we have seen that Watford can score on the road.
Mortiz Bauer
Perhaps our most leftfield pick of the season so far, but bear with us.
Stoke City may be dreadful at the moment but their run of fixtures over the next few weeks could hardly be better for Paul Lambert.
It begins at home to Huddersfield Town, one of the few sides in worse form than Stoke themselves at the moment.
Moritz Bauer, meanwhile, is a new right-back from Rubin Kazan who at least looked adventurous on his Premier League debut at Old Trafford on Monday night. A similarly daring approach plus a clean sheet could be on the cards this weekend.
