Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Harry Kane
A new era dawns in north London, and whatever the rights and wrongs of Mauricio Pochettino’s dismissal and Jose Mourinho’s appointment, it is likely to be good news for Kane’s fantasy owners.
Mourinho is one of the few elite coaches who still prefers to play with an out-and-out No 9, meaning Kane will be told to focus on one thing only: scoring goals. Against a defence as dodgy as West Ham’s this weekend, that already sounds promising.
Richarlison
Any pre-season optimism at Everton was extinguished by a miserable start but a win at Southampton last time out eased pressure on Marco Silva and now Norwich’s leaky defence visit Goodison Park.
Expect Daniel Farke’s side to be punished by an Everton attack that has not always played as badly as results suggest. Richarlison appears the most threatening member of Silva’s frontline, though Gylfi Sigurdsson could also prove influential.
Mesut Ozil
Remember him? Ozil has not been seriously considered as a fantasy option for some years now, as his measly 0.8% ownership demonstrates, but that could change if he has fully forced his way back into Unai Emery’s starting line-up.
Ozil has played the entirety of Arsenal’s last two league outings - against the defensively-sound Wolves and Leicester - and will hope for his first attacking returns of the campaign when struggling Southampton visit the Emirates.
Dejan Lovren
Virgil van Dijk has had a rotating cast of central defensive partners ever since joining Liverpool nearly two years ago. With Joel Matip still out injured, Lovren is currently the man in possession.
Lovren and Van Dijk come up the Premier League’s second-lowest scorers when they visit Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this weekend. Roy Hodgson’s side have looked vulnerable from set-pieces too.
Raul Jimenez
After experiencing some difficulties in the first few weeks of the campaign, Wolves are unbeaten in seven, dating back to the defeat to Chelsea in mid-September, and up to eighth in the table.
Jimenez has played a big part in that, scoring five crucial goals, and he will fancy himself again ahead of this weekend’s trip to Bournemouth. Underlying statistics suggest Eddie Howe’s defence is over-performing somewhat.
Honourable mentions: Tom Heaton, Lucas Digne, Dele Alli, Harvey Barnes, Wesley.
