Manchester City’s attack may be suffering at the moment but their upcoming run of fixtures suggests that they can make up for lost ground, with Burnley, Fulham and West Bromwich Albion visiting the Etihad in their next four games.
De Bruyne was left out of Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Olympiakos and did not travel, leaving him well rested for the visit of Sean Dyche’s side on Saturday. Surely the highest-scoring side of the last three seasons will finally start finding the net?
Jamie Vardy
Vardy has a reputation for punishing top six opponents - using his pace to run in behind their high lines - but he is just as adept at scoring against those in the bottom-half and Leicester are about to embark on a run of favourable fixtures.
Brendan Rodgers’ men face Fulham, Sheffield United and Brighton in their next three and a visit from Everton’s leaky defence in the following gameweek bodes well. Vardy continues to post modest underlying numbers but is still the game’s third-highest scoring forward.
Diogo Jota
It is becoming more and more difficult to ignore Diogo Jota, who scored his fourth league goal in Liverpool’s win over Leicester last weekend and is still priced at just £6.6m in the mid-price midfield bracket.
Playing time is a concern but he has played 80 minutes or more in each of Liverpool’s last three games and scored in the one substitute appearance. Whether he starts or not, he should feature at Brighton this weekend and throughout a favourable run of games.
Joao Cancelo
While City’s attack has floundered and Pep Guardiola’s side have only kept two clean sheets thus far, there is evidence to suggest that the defence is worth investment. The underlying numbers have improved on last term and they are about to face several goal-shy frontlines.
For a security of starts, Ruben Dias could be a value pick at £5.5m but Cancelo offers greater potential going forward at the same price. Few full-backs have been as involved in the attacking phase of the game as the Portuguese.
Patrick Bamford
Bamford is already well represented in the game - signed up in more than a third of squads - but there is a good reason why. The Leeds striker leads the way in many key attacking statistics and his £6.1m price is still a bargain.
While he has struggled for goals at Elland Road, Bamford has six while playing on the road and this weekend Leeds travel to Everton, who have conceded twice or more in every game since their opening weekend 1-0 win at Tottenham.
