After a dire first half, the game sprung into life when Son Heung-min capitalised on an Alex Iwobi error to play in Dele Alli, who placed a cool finish past fellow England international Jordan Pickford.
Moments earlier there'd been a lengthy delay for VAR after Son appeared to have been tripped in the box by Yerry Mina, but Alli was then embroiled in controversy at the other end of the pitch. Leaping at a corner with Mina, the ball glanced of Alli's raised arm, with the game delayed by over three minutes for a video check. However, as boos rang around the ground, the referee eventually confirmed the decision to let play go on as normal.
There was a highly distressing break in play as the game became stretched in the final 10 minutes when Andre Gomes suffered a severe injury in a tackle from Son Heung-min, which saw the South Korean receive a red card and the Portuguese midfielder carried off on a stretcher.
However, in the dying moments of stoppage time, Cenk Tosun equalised for the Toffees with a bullet header from close range. See our ratings below:
