From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Portsmouth and Fulham also made inquiries, but his most likely destination is Upton Park. "I think now is the right time for me to move on," Euell said, with his agent, Tony Finnigan, adding that now Charlton had set a price for Euell, who has been frustrated by his lack of opportunities at The Valley, he expected a move to be swiftly agreed.

Euell will probably be replaced by Damien Francis, who is set to finalise a transfer from Norwich City. It is understood that the midfielder is available at "£2m plus". Portsmouth have bid £1.75m and are set to increase their offer. However, they are likely to be trumped by Charlton, who yesterday signed Newcastle United's Darren Ambrose on a four-year deal. The fee is thought to be less than £1.5m.

Intriguingly, Andrew Cole is close to making a return to Blackburn Rovers a year after leaving. The striker has 12 months left on his contract at Fulham but wants to return to the North-west where his family still live. The Blackburn manager, Mark Hughes, believes the club, under predecessor, Graeme Souness, made a mistake by selling Cole in the first place.

A fee of £500,000 has been discussed although it is possible that Cole may be involved in a swap deal with Fulham taking one of Blackburn's players, or a free transfer. Fulham will also have to weigh up a renewed, imminent bid from Newcastle for their striker Luis Boa Morte.
