David Silva has signed a new five-year contract that will keep him tied down to Manchester City until 2019, the club have confirmed.

Silva has established himself as one of City’s most important players along with the likes of Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero. Having joined the club in 2010 from Spanish club Valencia, Silva has gone on to make 183 appearances in all competitions netting 27 times, but it’s assist tally that is the most impressive as the attacking midfielder has laid on 61 goals for his side.

The 28-year-old moved to the reigning Premier League champions for £24m, and should he see out his new deal, he could well remain with the Manchester club until the end of his career as he will be 33 when it expires.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Silva said: “From the moment I joined the club four years ago it has felt like a second home to me.

“On and off the pitch, I feel incredibly content and fulfilled, so why wouldn't I stay and keep winning trophies with a fantastic team?

“Over the last four years, we have achieved so much together, establishing City as a dominating force in England and now, when I look around this dressing room, I can see no reason why we won’t become one of the top teams in the world.

“It was a straightforward decision to extend my stay here and spend my peak years at Manchester City, a club with unbelievable fans who have always supported me.”

During his time with City, Silva has contributed towards two Premier League titles as well as the FA Cup and League Cup. He had three years remaining on his previous deal, and becomes the third City player to extend his contract this summer after both Samir Nasri and Aleksandar Kolorov agreed to remain at the Etihad Stadium.
