Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea refuses to comment on contract release clause

Real Madrid are expected to renew their interest in the 24-year-old next summer

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has refused to comment on speculation regarding a release clause in his new contract with the club.

The Spanish goalkeeper was questioned on the subject following his country's victory over Ukraine on Monday night.

The 24-year-old, who saw his long-awaited move to Real Madrid fall through last month, recently signed a fresh four-year deal due to keep him at Old Trafford until 2019.

A release clause of around £30m, which would smooth over any potential move to the Spanish giants, is rumoured to have been inserted into De Gea's new contract.

However, the Spaniard refused to confirm or deny the clause's existence.

"You should ask [my agent] Jorge [Mendes] that question, he's the one who pays attention to those details," he said.

De Gea, whose previous contract expired at the end of this season, seemed certain to leave Louis van Gaal's side until an administrative error meant that necessary paperwork was filed too late.

In a bitter public war of words, United and Real blamed each other for the move's collapse. However, the Spanish club are widely expected to renew their interest in the near future.
