Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Arsene Wenger has insisted that Kolo Touré's transfer to Manchester City is not done and dusted yet, although City remain confident they can push it through by the end of the week and take manager Mark Hughes' spending this summer close to £100m. Talks between City and Arsenal are ongoing and Wenger has conceded the 28-year-old defender could leave for around £15m.
Touré played for Arsenal on Monday in a friendly in Hungary and Wenger said: "We will see what's happening in the next 24 hours, nothing is decided. We have seven centre-backs and I have to play some in midfield but Kolo is a very good player and we will see what happens. I am more focused on getting everybody fit for the start of the season but we are looking at opportunities [to sign players] as well, there are still some pre-season games to see what we need. When the time comes we will do something."
