Frank Lampard has been sacked as Chelsea manager today. The players were asked to come into training later in the afternoon on Monday after Lampard was dismissed.

The Chelsea hierarchy lost faith in the club legend who steered the club to a top-four finish last season but failed to maintain that momentum in the new campaign, despite a summer splurge on expensive new signings.

Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have struggled to settle at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea find themselves ninth in the table, well out of the title race picture.

Owner Roman Abramovich is famously impatient when it comes to his head coach and there was wiggle room even for Lampard, despite clinching victory over Luton Town in the FA Cup on Sunday. The owner even released a statement explaining his decision.

Most of Europe’s top managers would be interested in the job, despite the short life expectancy, given the sheet talent available to them at the club. But there is one man who appears to be the stand-out favourite: Thomas Tuchel, the former Borussia Dortmund and PSG manager who is currently available.

Tuchel is German and that is thought to be key to his potential appointment, given the struggles of Germany internationals Werner and Havertz, while defender Antonio Rudiger is also a compatriot.

Here are the odds for the next Chelsea manager.

Thomas Tuchel 1/1

Andriy Shevchecko 4/1

Massimiliano Allegri 5/1

Rafa Benitez 7/1

Julian Nagelsmann 7/1

Ralf Rangnick 10/1

Ralph Hasenhuttl 12/1

Brendan Rodgers 14/1
