From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Antonio Conte’s side managed to see off Premier League rivals Liverpool in their opening International Champions Cup fixture despite having Cesc Fabregas sent-off for a late challenge on new signing Ragnar Klavan.
After opening his tenure at Stamford Bridge with a 2-0 defeat at Rapid Vienna, Conte has seen his side record back-to-back wins over RZ Pellets and Liverpool as well as an 8-0 thrashing of Atus Ferlach in a behind-closed-doors friendly.
However, Real pose a significant step up for the Blues as the Champions League winners look to kick-start their preparations for the new campaign following the 3-1 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain during the week. While head coach Zinedine Zidane started the match with a strong line-up – including the recently repurchased Alvaro Morata – he brought on a number of academy players in the second half, while also giving his son, Enzo, his first run-out in a Real shirt.
Meanwhile, Conte has the option of fielding new signing N’Golo Kante for the first time after he joined up with the squad on Thursday, although the France midfielder remains short on match fitness after a post-Euro 2016 holiday.

Where’s Ronaldo and Bale?
Cristiano Ronaldo has not travelled with the squad after suffering a knee injury in the Euro 2016 final, with the forward ruled out for up two months. The injury may not be as serious as it seems, with Real keen to rest Ronaldo following a long season, and the likelihood is that he would have been left out of the tour regardless.
Bale is also still on holiday following his exploits with Wales at the European Championship, and after enjoying a holiday with his fiancée Emma Rhys-Jones, he has embarked on something of a Tour de Golf, having been pictured at Castle Stuart, Royal Aberdeen, Royal Dornoch and St Andrews.
