The pressure on Jose Mourinho intensified further as his Chelsea side suffered a debilitating defeat at the hands of Liverpool.
It had all looked so promising when the Portuguese coach’s men when they took an early lead through Ramires, who headed home unchallenged at the far post.
Liverpool, however, were resurgent, inspired by new coach Jurgen Klopp’s intense style of play. They harassed and harried the home side, dominating possession in the first half but lacking the final killer touch.
In added on time at the end of the first half, the away side finally broke through with a curling effort from Philippe Coutinho. It was no less than they deserved.
The Reds’ dominance resumed in the second half as tensions began to rise. Diego Costa was lucky to stay on the pitch after appearing to kick Martin Skrtel in the chest while the pair lay down on the floor.

Despite an up-and-down first period marked by some sloppy passing, the midfielder came out from the break in better form and worked hard to keep a lid on the likes of Hazard and Willian.

He was brought off for Benteke in the latter stages of the game, but Klopp will see the Brazilian’s showing as positive going forwards.

Chelsea vs Liverpool player ratings From the bench: Christian Benteke - 8 out of 10 Secured the win with his well-taken goal from Ibe’s cross after being brought on as a second-half substitute. Proved the impact change from Klopp.
Liverpool were also lucky to keep their full complement of players on the field. Lucas Leiva was fortunate not to receive a second yellow, with Mark Clattenburg’s decision incensing Mourinho and the home support.
