From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chelsea fan - Harry Edwards
For the first time all season, Chelsea are unbeaten in six games and things are beginning to look better. The draw against West Brom could be taken with a pinch of salt given our recent negative results against them, but some problems still do exist.
We started the game well, but the players seemed to lose the extra step as it went on - possibly the Christmas period finally catching up. On Saturday we face a good Everton side, who will no doubt punish our faults with Romelu Lukaku firing on all cylinders.
We need to be on our game if we wish to get anything and the team needs to give 100 per cent for the full game, not just half. As has been the case for most of the season, anything is possible at Stamford Bridge, so I'm going for a close affair and a 2-1 win for Chelsea.
Everton fan - Gary Stevens
Watching Everton is truly never for the faint of heart, and this season's been no different - if anything, possibly worse for those of a nervous disposition than ever, with the 3-3 draw against Bournemouth proving that even a 95th minute goal isn't late enough to start celebrating.
Fortunately, Chelsea have been equally unpredictable this season, so it's not like Roberto Martinez and co. will be facing some kind of unstoppable juggernaut on Saturday afternoon. They've drawn three of their last five games as they squeeze back towards form, but they're definitely still giving up chances.
Lukaku, Deulofeu and Barkley should absolutely lap those chances up. With Tim Howard even managing to look like something more than a League One standard keeper in the 0-0 draw against City on Wednesday - a clean sheet! A miracle! - there are real reasons for cautious optimism at the moment. Just about.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-2 Everton
