From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 27-year-old full back has established himself as a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge since arriving in a £7m deal from Marseille in 2012.
Azpilicueta has won the Premier League, the League Cup and the Europa League since joining Chelsea, and was named the club’s player of the year by his peers in the 2013/14 season.
Having signed his new contract, Azpilicueta said: “I’m really happy to have signed a new contract. Since I arrived here my target was to progress as a player and win trophies.
“This new contract gives me the chance to continue my relationship with the club, that’s what I wanted and obviously I’m really happy here.
“We’ve had some really good moments so far this season. From day one, we started working very hard. We have a new manager with new ideas and I’m really happy to be working with him,” he added.
“Obviously we can still improve but the long-term aim for us is to win trophies, that is what we all want, the players, manager and fans.”
Chelsea currently sit at the top of the Premier League table, having won each of their last nine league games under Antonio Conte.
