From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Valencia have received a big money offer from a Premiership club for their highly-rated Spanish midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo, according to reports in Spain.

The offer is said to have come from Chelsea, according to some reports. Angulo is 27, has played 271 games for the club and has scored 45 goals.

Chelsea have terminated the contract of their goalkeeper Jürgen Macho, the club said yesterday. The 26-year-old Austrian joined Chelsea on a free transfer from Sunderland in July 2003, but did not play a game last season after rupturing his cruciate ligament.

"He has not figured in [the manager] Jose Mourinho's plans this season, and after a week's training at Norwich and some training at Rapid Vienna, he and the club agreed to release him from the remaining year on his contract so he can pursue his career elsewhere," Chelsea said in a statement.

Everton's pursuit of the Dutch winger Andy van der Meyde seems set for failure after his agent insisted he wanted to stay and fight for his place at Inter Milan.

Chiel Dekker confirmed Everton had made an approach to sign the Holland international.

"Everton were interested in signing Van der Meyde but they did not make an official offer to the club," Dekker said.

Van der Meyde joined Inter last summer from Ajax but failed to secure a regular place in the team, making only 14 league appearances in his debut campaign in Serie A.

The 24-year-old has also been linked in recent months with a return to Ajax. However, Dekker admitted that the player is determined to succeed at Milan.

"He had a difficult first season at Inter, but he is looking forward for the coming campaign," he said. "He is willing to fight for a place in the team."
