From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The latest setback in a terrible season for the champions left them languishing in 14th place – 14 points off the Champions League places.
Jose Mourinho, Chelsea’s manager, said on Sky TV: “We didn’t deserve to lose. Our opponent – in the period that they thought only of defence – managed to get a goal and there was a clear mistake from the referee. I think it is a clear handball and penalty with the score at 0-0.”
On a remarkable day for last season’s top two Manchester City fell to a third defeat in five matches, this time 2-0 at Stoke. City slipped from the top of the table, behind Leicester, after they were well beaten by a Stoke side who took an early grip on the game through two goals by Marko Arnautovic.
Manuel Pellegrini fears his City squad are running on empty and said that without Vincent Kompany, Yaya Touré and Sergio Aguero they are struggling to compete on four fronts, including the Champions League, and could not cope with the energy of a vibrant Stoke side.
