Frank Lampard says Chelsea loss to West Ham was not a surprise

Frank Lampard has heaped praise on Christian Pulisic’s impact at Chelsea while comparing his qualities to Eden Hazard.

The American has shone for the Blues since the Premier League restart and earned a penalty in the 3-0 win over Watford to reclaim a top four place.

And while Lampard was initially reluctant to compare the 21-year-old to the Chelsea great, he did admit there are similarities.

“I don’t want to get involved in that one too much, but they can both go by players and they’re both great to watch,” Lampard told Sky Sports.

“Eden did it here – sensational in what he did. I don’t want to make that comparison quite, but I also don’t want to take away from Christian, what he’s showing now is a real natural ability.

“A balance and the speed at which he can dribble with the ball, the next stage for him is more end product, more goals and more assists.

“Since the restart he’s already showing that and he looks great.

“He had injury problems this year, but he’s a good one, a really good one – I’m really happy with him.”

Lampard was also thrilled by the blossoming partnership between Mason Mount and Ross Barkley in midfield, with the former winning the man of the match award and the latter scoring the third goal of the night.

“Mason’s pass for the first goal, Ross making runs and getting into positions,” Lampard explained. “We have Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Billy Gilmour – N’Golo Kante can play there as well.

“We played some nice stuff, it’s difficult against a low block sometimes. We started to break lines more in the second half and turn on the ball more. A really comfortable evening for us.”
