Chelsea are reportedly lining up a £33m bid for Spanish striker David Villa, but will face competition from Manchester United for his signature.
Reports today suggest Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has given his approval for the deal and has hired a top agent to ensure the transfer goes through.
However reports in Spain suggest the Valencia hit-man would prefer a move to Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson is a known admirer but would be reluctant to get into a bidding war for the 27-year-old.
Chelsea are eager to bolster their ranks in January with the strong possibility that they will be banned from any transfer activity in the following window due to the Gael Kakuta affair.
