Cesc Fabregas has three-match suspension cut to one after Chelsea midfielder's red card against West Brom

Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas has had his three-match suspension for the red card he received against West Bromwich Albion reduced to one match, the FA has confirmed.

The Spanish midfielder received his marching orders for violent conduct after kicking the ball at Baggies midfielder Chris Brunt during the Blues' 3-0 defeat at the Hawthorns.

Jose Mourinho described the referee Mike Jones's decision to send off Fabregas as 'bizarre', and the FA have upheld a claim from Chelsea that the initial three-match ban was excessive.

A statement released on the FA's website says: "The Regulatory Commission has reduced the Chelsea midfielder’s suspension to one match, to be served with immediate effect."

Fabregas will now miss Chelsea's final fixture of the season against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, but will be available to start the Blues' title defence next season.
