Your support makes all the difference.Sol Campbell escaped suspension yesterday after his controversial tangle with Manchester United's Eric Djemba-Djemba during the FA Community Shield was seen on television.
The Arsenal centre-back, who has been fined £20,000, appeared before the Football Association who had levelled an initial charge of violent behaviour after he kicked out in retaliation at Djemba-Djemba during the encounter at the Millennium Stadium, in Cardiff, in August. The offence was reduced by the FA's disciplinary committee to one of "improper behaviour" and Campbell said: "I was given a fair hearing and I'm happy with the decision."
Campbell is clear to play his part in the Premiership leaders' title campaign, to which he has only just returned after taking two weeks' compassionate leave while mourning the death of his father.
Rufus Brevett, the West Ham defender, also escaped with a fine, of £1,000, for three charges of improper conduct during the Hammers' match against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium in April.
Brevett, who is out with a broken foot, was found guilty on all counts - involvement in a mass confrontation of players, striking Bolton's Kevin Nolan and barging into a police officer as he left the field. But the FA decided a reprimand and a warning as to his future conduct were sufficient punishment along with the fine.
The Portsmouth manager, Harry Redknapp, was given a two-match touchline ban and a £3,000 fine after he was "sent off" at Wolves on 30 August for using abusive and insulting words to match officials, including the referee Andy D'Urso. Redknapp was furious that D'Urso booked eight players during the goalless game - including five from his Pompey side - and was banished from the dug-out.
